Project Description:
Located outside the main entrance of the Wellington Railway Station, the newly built accessible ramp is the first addition to the front of the building since it was opened in 1937. Working closely with Heritage New Zealand and Conservation Architects, Interact designed an accessible ramp which is a modern yet timeless feature, paying homage to this Class One Heritage listed building. The ramp has a soft curve which aligns with the curvature of the surrounding columns. The brass tactiles and granite were selected as they would age similarly to other surrounding elements in the entrance of the station. This highly anticipated project is architectural feature to the entrance of the Railway Station that can be used by all.
